Wood to support completion of landmark Net Zero Teesside project
Wood will provide integrated project management services for the next phase of the flagship Net Zero Teesside Power and Northern Endurance Partnership carbon capture and storage projects in the UK. This announcement follows the financial close announcement by NZT Power and NEP on 10th December 2024.
NZT Power and NEP will be integral to helping the UK achieve its carbon reduction targets as well as creating new jobs and economic growth in the UK’s Teesside region. When complete, NZT Power will be the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture.
CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure will be provided by NEP to serve NZT Power and nearby carbon capture projects. NZT Power is forecasted to generate up to 742 megawatts of low carbon power, equivalent to the annual average electricity requirements of around 1 million homes in the UK.
Across the £4 billion projects, Wood will be responsible for providing specialist support services including project and construction management, engineering and technical assurance, information management and digital systems integration across all nine contractors.
Craig Shanaghey, Executive President of Projects at Wood, said: “As a UK headquartered company, continuing to support a world-leading decarbonisation project in our own backyard is monumental. Our integrated team working closely with Net Zero Teesside Power and Northern Endurance Partnership is leading the energy transition by designing and advancing the energy ecosystem. We are proud to be a strategic ally through the full lifecycle of this project from inception to operation.”
Known as the execution phase, NZT Power and NEP will begin the final stage of detailed engineering, conclude procurement and preparations for construction and commissioning activities. NZT Power is expected to create more than 3,000 construction jobs and then generate 1,000 jobs during operations. 100 Wood employees will be involved at project peak.
Wood has been involved with the project since 2019, providing concept, pre-front end engineering design (pre-FEED) and front-end engineering design (FEED) packages. A key effort in supporting the UK Government’s Net-Zero Strategy, this project targets commercial operation in 2028.
