JERA explores partnership to jointly develop solar power plants aimed at reducing CO2 emissions
JERA Co Inc, hereby announces that its subsidiary JERA Cross and Ryohin Keikaku Co Ltd, have signed a basic agreement to explore a partnership to jointly develop solar power plants aimed at reducing Ryohin Keikaku’s CO2 emissions.
JERA, as it pursues a decarbonised society, works through JERA Cross to help clients design their vision for the future and formulate strategies for achieving their green transformation (GX), to provide integrated support for developing and supplying the renewable energy that energy decarbonisation requires, and to offer a stable supply of 24/7 carbon-free energy. In this way, it contributes to solving client challenges, furthering their business transformation, and reducing CO2 emissions.
Ryohin Keikaku, aiming for a society with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, announced in December 2023 that it would install solar panels on 100% of its company-owned store locations and reach 100% renewable energy adoption at its stores by 2030 as part of its efforts to achieve 100% renewable energy use for electricity consumed in group business activities. Since then, its installation of solar power generation equipment has expanded to 25 of its stand-alone Muji locations.
Under the recent basic agreement signed by the three companies, JERA and Ryohin Keikaku will explore the joint development of new solar power plants aimed at reducing Ryohin Keikaku’s CO2 emissions and consider schemes and frameworks for collaboration among the three companies.
Going forward under the basic agreement, JERA will consider providing Ryohin Keiaku with expertise and support related to the new development and maintenance of offsite solar power facilities and JERA Cross will consider providing the environmental value of electricity generated at solar power facilities.
JERA, by exploring the joint development of solar power plants together with JERA Cross and Ryohin Keikaku, will drive the utilisation of renewable energy and contribute to achieving a sustainable, carbon-neutral society.
